The 'CooLip' protect your lips from the hot surface of the Cups. They are easily removeable for cleaning and can be switched to the other side of the cup depending on wheneter you like to drink left or right handed.
Every Kelly Kettle Cup comes with a CooLip piece. However, if you happen to lose a CooLip piece from your Kelly Kettle Camping Cup, replacements are available here. :-)
